PM Modi Highlights Defence Modernisation, Push for Self-Reliance

New Delhi, June 10:
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday emphasized that the past 11 years under his leadership have brought transformative changes in India’s defence sector, focusing strongly on modernisation and self-reliant manufacturing.
Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Modi stated, “Over the last 11 years, significant advancements have been made in our defence sector, emphasizing both modernization and self-reliance. It is heartening to see the collective resolve of Indians working towards a stronger nation.”
The Prime Minister shared a post from the government’s citizen engagement platform marking 11 years of his tenure, which showcased progress across multiple domains. The thread noted that India has overhauled its defence capabilities, strengthened strategic global ties, and made groundbreaking achievements in space exploration.
Driven by the vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat (self-reliant India), the country has embraced innovation, expanded its technological and trade influence, and emerged as a confident and influential global power, the post stated.
Key highlights included a dramatic increase in defence exports—from ₹1,940 crore in 2014-15 to ₹23,622 crore in 2024-25—and the launch of India’s first home-built aircraft carrier, INS Vikrant. India’s missile technology, including an extended-range BrahMos missile launched from a Su-30 MKI jet, has also seen major advancements.
The post also celebrated India’s growing international stature, citing landmark trade agreements with the UK and UAE, and its active role in global peacekeeping. With over 2.9 lakh troops participating in 50 UN missions, India continues to support global peace efforts. During the COVID-19 pandemic, India provided 2 lakh vaccine doses to UN peacekeepers.
The thread concluded by portraying India’s transformation under PM Modi as one marked by decisive leadership, bold vision, and an unwavering commitment to building a stronger and more respected Bharat.
