Congress Mocks Shah’s ‘Peace’ Claim in J&K, Northeast, Cites Failures

New Delhi, June 10:
The Congress party on Tuesday criticized Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s statement that peace has been restored in Jammu and Kashmir and the Northeast, calling the claim “bizarre” and a distraction from his own failures. The party accused Shah of boasting while delivering minimal results.

In a Hindi post on X (formerly Twitter), Shah had said that the Modi government’s 11-year tenure marked a “golden era” of commitment and public service. He claimed that Naxalism is nearly eradicated, peace has returned to J&K and the Northeast, and that India now responds to terrorism by striking directly at terrorist hideouts.

Responding to these comments, Congress leader Jairam Ramesh said Shah’s remarks are misleading, especially given the ongoing violence in Manipur and the unsolved Pahalgam terror attack from April 22, 2025. He pointed out that reports link the same attackers to earlier incidents in Poonch (December 2023), Gagangir, and Gulmarg (October 2024).

Ramesh further claimed that Manipur remains in turmoil, with law and order in disarray and President’s Rule proving ineffective. He said the public in the state is suffering from frustration and anger due to deteriorating conditions.

Blaming Shah for failing to bring the Pahalgam perpetrators to justice and restore normalcy in Manipur, Ramesh labeled his tenure as one of “maximum boasts, minimum achievements.” He also took a dig at Shah, suggesting that his accomplishments might only extend to personal gains for his son.

Shah, in his original statement, had praised the Modi government’s approach of “Minimum Government, Maximum Governance,” saying it transformed the pace and scale of national development.
