Police Station Peermitha, Jammu crack cremation ground theft Case, Accused arrested.

Demonstrating swift action and professional competence, Jammu Police have solved a theft case reported from the cremation ground building at Gujjar Nagar within 24 hours of the incident.

On May 22, 2025, Police Post Gujjar Nagar received credible information regarding a theft at the cremation ground premises. As per initial reports, an unidentified person had unlawfully entered the building, forcibly broke open its door, vandalized donation boxes meant for public charity, and decamped with cash.

Taking prompt cognizance, FIR No. 21/2025 U/S 331(4), 305(A) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) was registered at Police Station Peer Mitha. A Special Investigation Team (SIT) was constituted under the overall supervision of SP City North Jammu, led by SDPO City North and assisted by SHO PS Peer Mitha and Incharge PP Gujjar Nagar.

Through diligent examination of CCTV footage and deployment of technical surveillance, the team zeroed in on a suspect. The accused, identified as Nikel Goswami, son of Mohinderpal Goswami, originally a resident of Baba Basti, Gujjar Nagar, and currently residing in Bari Brahmana (Samba), was apprehended.
During questioning, the accused admitted to his role in the theft.

Further investigation is underway to explore any wider links or prior involvement in similar incidents.
