Soldier Dies of Gunshot in Udhampur

Jammu, Sep 23: A soldier died from a bullet fired from his service rifle outside a military hospital in Udhampur district of Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday, officials said.

Police have launched inquest proceedings to determine whether it was a case of accidental firing or suicide.

The soldier, who was a driver, was waiting inside a parked medicine supply vehicle in the main town when the fatal shot was fired.

Colleagues rushed to the spot after hearing the gunfire and found him lying in a pool of blood. He was taken to hospital where doctors declared him brought dead, officials added.
