The National Dental Commission Act, 2023 ( 21 of 2023) regulates the profession of dentistry in the country, to provide for quality

and affordable dental education, to make accessible high-quality oral healthcare services across the country.

The Act received Presidential assent on August 11, 2023, and officially came into force on February 29, 2024.

Soon after the Parliament passed the National Dental Commission Bill, 2023, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare called it significant step towards enhancing healthcare quality and aligning dental education with global standards.

This landmark legislation underscores the government’s unwavering commitment to ensuring the highest standards of dental care for its citizens.

The National Dental Commission Act 2023 introduced a groundbreaking regulatory framework by establishing the National Dental Commission (NDC), which replaced the existing Dental Council of India (DCI) and repealed the Dentists Bill, 1948.

The Act envisions a complete overhaul of the dental education and profession landscape to bring it on par with international benchmarks.

Key features of the Act include constitution of the National Dental Commission and State Dental Councils, three autonomous boards; fixed tenure for the Chairperson, Members, and Secretary of the commission, with no possibility of reappointment; industry collaboration and technological innovation; online National Register and Dental Advisory Council; and merit-based selection process.

The act also empowers the Commission to frame guidelines for fee determination for fifty per cent of seats in private dental colleges and deemed Universities.

The act is poised to usher in vital regulatory reforms in the dental education sector. It champions transparency, accountability, and professionalism to safeguard the interests of the public.

By promoting affordable oral healthcare availability and boosting the employability of Indian dental professionals globally, the commission is set to enhance both domestic and international dental care standards. (Agencies)

Centre Extends Deployment Of 273 CAPF Companies In Delhi Till Oct 31 Amid Flash Protest Fears

0

The Union home ministry has extended for the second time the deployment of 273 Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) companies in the national capital till October 31 in view of the possibility of “flash protests” by political and other groups, official sources said on Friday.

The companies were brought to Delhi for the protests by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) earlier this month.

The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) directed the Delhi Police and the respective CAPFs on October 22 to coordinate the deployment, the sources told PTI.

The extension was approved at the request of the Delhi Police, they said, adding that a similar extension had been sanctioned in mid-October.

Officials said the Delhi Police had informed the ministry that there was a possibility of flash protests being undertaken by political and other outfits in various “sensitive” locations of the city. The extension of the deployment was essential in order to ensure proper law and order, they said.

The MHA has approved the request, the sources said.

Of the 273 companies that will continue to remain deployed in Delhi alongside the local police, 125 are from the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), including 20 women personnel units; 20 from the Rapid Action Force (RAF); 46 from the Border Security Force (BSF); 39 from the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP); 31 from the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB); and 12 from the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF).

A CAPF company has a sanctioned strength of 100 personnel, but its effective operational manpower is about 70-72 personnel.

Parts of Delhi witnessed CJP protests on October 9 seeking the resignation of CEC Gyanesh Kumar over alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. Opposition parties subsequently staged protests with the same demand.

The CJP also held a ‘Lehra Do Tiranga’ demonstration on October 16. (Agencies)

At least 16 people were killed and 65 others injured after a magnitude seven earthquake struck Baqen County of Nagqu City in China’s Tibet Autonomous Region, the city’s earthquake relief headquarters said.

Govt Extends Duty-Free Raw Sugar Import Window Till Dec 31 To Ease Festive Supplies

0

The government has extended the duty-free import deadline for 1 million tonnes of raw sugar under the Tariff Rate Quota (TRQ) to December 31 to boost domestic supplies during the festive season.

According to a finance ministry notification, the import window has been extended to December 31, 2026.

On August 20, the government allowed imports of 1 million tonnes of raw sugar until October 31.

So far, around 2.6 lakh tonnes has been imported, according to industry data.

Industry sources said imports have remained subdued due to a lack of price parity. The extension is aimed at securing supplies whenever international prices ease enough to make imports viable.

Besides allowing imports, the government has taken a series of measures like imposing stockholding limits on traders to ensure adequate domestic supplies and keep prices in check amid tight availability.

Sugar production for the 2025-26 marketing year (October-September) is now estimated at 306 lakh tonnes, down from an earlier forecast of 343 lakh tonnes. Annual domestic demand is pegged at 280-285 lakh tonnes. (Agencies)

BJP Cites Media Report To Target Cong’s ‘Regime Change Plot’, Terms Rahul Gandhi ‘Gaddar’

0

The BJP on Thursday cited a media report on alleged links between riots in France and the recent protests in India, claiming it exposes the “anarchy and regime change plot” of the Congress, and called Rahul Gandhi a “gaddar” (traitor).

There was no immediate reaction from Congress to the BJP’s charge.

According to a report published in The Times of India, a Fox News digital investigation has claimed to have uncovered links between the riots in France and the protests in India demanding resignation of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar.

Addressing a press conference here, BJP spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia said, “Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi is presenting a model of anarchy and ‘gaddari’ before the country. Today, a report has appeared in a newspaper, detailing how these alleged links of betrayal are connected to foreign agencies. Therefore, it would not be wrong to ask, ‘Who is the leader of these traitors?’,” Bhatia said.

“Rahul ‘gaddar’,” he charged.

“It is India’s misfortune that the leader of opposition is irresponsible and immature. And if I present the evidence before you, it would not be wrong to call him a traitor or Mir Jafar.

“An investigation by Fox News shows how organisations have created an ecosystem across nine countries, including France, that attempts to overthrow elected governments. It is a ‘red-green ecosystem of protest’,” he claimed.

“According to the Fox News report, red represents communist groups, while green represents Islamic groups. If we look at this report, it states, ‘Global chaos grows to 101 groups’. Global chaos, anarchy and disorder… these 101 organisations are operating across nine countries,” Bhatia said.

Citing the report, BJP spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari said on X, “Global investigation exposes anarchy and regime change plot of Congress.”

Investigation report titled ‘Global Chaos inc grows to 101 groups’ flags how communist organisation Progressive International (PI) was coordinating common messaging between protests in France, Albania and India, Bhandari said.

“The aim of the messaging was ‘acquiring organised power through new rebellion’, regime change,” he added, referring to the media report.

Bhandari alleged that Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi had met Progressive International at “10 Janpath” on April 10, 2025.

“This further proves Rahul Gandhi and Congress are in the remote control of foreign anti-democratic forces,” he added, demanding a response from the Congress.

Bhandari said the Congress must reveal if it coordinated with Progressive International during the protests.

“What was the messaging between Congress and this organisation when protests were ongoing. Was Rahul Gandhi moving to Vietnam related to taking instructions from many such organisations for the November 1 anarchic protest,” he questioned, adding, “Congress must answer.” (Agencies)

Tusk is on a three-day visit to India amid renewed global push to end the conflict in Ukraine.

The Prime Minister said the growing bilateral economic strength has created new opportunities for the India-Poland partnership, adding New Delhi’s free trade agreement with the European Union will further solidify the economic engagement between the two countries.

“India and Poland, both believe in democratic values and the rule of law. We believe that reform is essential to make global governance institutions more empowered and effective,” he said.

“Be it Ukraine or West Asia, India will continue to support every meaningful effort towards peace,” he added. (Agencies)

Shah Slams Opposition, Says Protests Will Achieve Nothing, NDA Will Form Next Govt In Punjab

0

New Delhi, Oct 21: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday slammed Opposition parties, including the Congress and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), saying protests and demonstrations would achieve nothing, and asserted that the NDA would form the next government in Punjab.

Inaugurating projects worth Rs 8,941 crore aimed at cleaning the Yamuna in Delhi, Shah asserted that the BJP would seek a mandate from people in 2029 after rejuvenating the river.

In a blistering attack on the Congress and AAP, Shah said the Opposition parties had accused the ruling dispensation of EVM tampering and vote theft, but had been out of power in many states for decades.

Shah, detailing plans to clean the Yamuna, also accused the previous Congress and AAP governments in Delhi of allowing sewer water discharge into the river and said the BJP government had now managed to reduce the discharge.

Attacking AAP convenor Arvind Kejriwal, Shah said the ” politics of excuse” would not save the AAP in the upcoming Punjab Assembly polls.

People in Punjab want an NDA government, he said, claiming that the AAP would be routed in the polls.

Shah also asserted that the prevailing drug trafficking menace would be ended after the formation of an NDA government in Punjab. (Agencies)
