Orientation cum Fresher’s Induction Meet held at GDC Kathua
KATHUA, SEPTEMBER 21: Orientation cum Induction Meet of Semester-I students was today organized in Government Degree College Kathua.
More than 600 newly admitted students along with NCC cadets, NSS volunteers and faculty members of college attended the function.
Principal, Prof. Sumanesh was the chief guest of the occasion.
The function started with the lighting of the lamp by the Principal and other senior faculty members of the college. Dr. Jogbinder Singh Soodan in his welcome note address welcomed the principal sir, other faculty members, newly admitted students, NCC cadets, NSS volunteers and media personnel present there. He said that it will be a memorable moment for all newly admitted students as they will be the first batch who gets admission in NEP-2020.
The first speaker of the event was Prof. Rakesh Singh, who addressed the gathering about NEP-2020. He welcomed the newcomers in this premier institute. Starting from the history of various education policies in India, he explained why there was dire need of NEP-2020 in the present scenario of the country. He emphasized how NEP-2020 policy was framed and how much time it took for its complete draft.
He addressed the students about various highlights of NEP-2020 and said that this policy will revolutionize the whole education system in coming years. He congratulated the students for being in the first batch who got admission according to NEP-2020. While addressing students, various students raised queries regarding NEP-2020 and Prof Rakesh Singh patiently listened to their grievances and satisfied them with proper guidance. He also stressed upon various benefits of NEP-2020 for the students. His talk concluded with best wishes to newly admitted students for their future.
Prof Manmohan Singh, NSS Program officer addressed the august gathering about national service scheme (NSS). He informed the students about the evolution of NSS and its prime motto. He said that it should be the prime aim of every student to work for nation building and NSS provides a platform to students to develop leadership qualities. He said that more than 300 volunteers are giving their services to society under NSS units of college.
He emphasized newly admitted students to join NSS and contribute towards nation building. His talk was preceded with a dynamic talk by Dr Jogbinder Singh Soodan, physical director of college. He explained the role of sports and games in the life of a student. He said that games must be the essential part of our day to day routine as besides providing career opportunities, it also enhances the concentration level of students. He explained various achievements of the college in sports and said that various students of our college performed at national and international level. He again welcomed newly admitted students and invited them to join sports.
His speech was preceded by a talk by Cadet Rydhim Mahajan about NCC. He said that NCC is one of the most voluntary services running in our country. He explained various achievements by NSS cadets last year. He said that there are three NCC wings running in our college in which 200 cadets are enrolled. He said that NCC cultivates the values of discipline and devotion towards nation in the minds of cadets. He explained various benefits of NCC in the career making of cadets.
The last speaker of the event was Prof Sumanesh, Principal of the college. His speech started with a warm welcome to all newly admitted students. He congratulated them for getting admission in one of the premier institutes of the UT. He said that it is the golden opportunity for the students to earn knowledge from highly qualified staff. He advised students to maintain discipline in and out of college. He also advised students to attend their classes regularly. He explained the role of healthy diet and games in the life of students.
He explained about the college library, college hostels to the students. He also emphasised the students about various scholarship schemes running in the college. He informed students about commencement of classes for the session 2021-22 from 22-09-2022. He congratulated students for getting admission in this college and wished them good luck for their future. The event was concluded with vote of thanks by Prof Manmohan Singh in which he paid sincere gratitude towards principal sir, faculty members, media personnel, technical staff, menial staff and students. Stage comparing of whole function was done by Dr. Poonam Kumari and Prof. Esha Verma.
The whole event was convened by Dr Suresh Sharma and other members of organizing committee Prof Manmohan Singh, Dr. Verinder Singh, Dr. Amrik Singh, Dr. Jogbinder Singh Soodan, Prof Poonam Kumari, Dr. Kamaldeep Singh, Dr Shveta Saroop and Prof. Esha Verma, under able guidance of Prof Sumanesh, Principal of college. Senior faculty members Prof Seema Malpotra, Prof Ritu Bhagat, Dr. Rachna, Dr Anupama Arora and other faculty members graced the occasion with their kind presence.
