Northern Railway Jammu Division Introduces Lead Wire Sealing in Parcel SLRs, Replaces ICF Coaches with LHB

Jammu, Dec 14: Northern Railway’s Jammu division has taken a major step towards improving safety and security by introducing lead wire sealing in parcel Seating Cum Luggage Rakes (SLRs), replacing the traditional lac sealing system, officials said on Saturday.

Senior Divisional Commercial Manager Uchit Singhal said the Jammu Division discontinued lac-based sealing from December 13. He explained that the new lead wire-based sealing system significantly reduces the risk of fire accidents and is easier to handle during operations. The sealing uses a plunger with an engraved station impression or seal, ensuring better security and authenticity of parcel consignments.

Singhal said the move reflects the Railways’ commitment to strengthening security standards for railway premises as well as goods transported through parcel services.

In another important development, the Jammu division has decided to replace conventional ICF coaches with modern LHB (Linke Hofmann Busch) coaches in Train No. 19224/19223 Sabarmati BG–Jammu Tawi Express. This change will come into effect from January 1 next year.

He said LHB coaches are equipped with an anti-telescopic design and Centre Buffer Coupler (CBC), which substantially reduces the risk of casualties in case of accidents. These coaches also feature improved hydraulic suspension, better ventilation, and are designed for higher speeds, offering passengers a safer and more comfortable travel experience.

Calling it a significant step towards railway modernisation, Singhal said the initiative will enhance passenger safety while also improving overall service quality on the route.
