Newborn’s Body Recovered from Washroom of Hospital in Srinagar

Srinagar: A newborn male infant was found dead inside the washroom of a hospital in the Soura area of Srinagar, triggering shock and concern among staff and attendants.
Officials said the body was discovered inside a commode by an attendant of an admitted patient, who immediately informed hospital authorities. The administration then alerted the police.
A preliminary medical assessment indicated that the infant was around six to seven months in gestational age. Officials said further examination will help determine the exact circumstances of the incident.
Police reached the spot soon after receiving the report and initiated legal proceedings. The body has been taken for medico-legal formalities to ascertain the cause of death.
Sources said CCTV footage from the hospital premises is likely to be examined as part of the investigation to determine how the infant ended up in the washroom. Officials said all possible angles, including concealment of birth or illegal termination, are being probed.
