Congratulates Officers as Srinagar city ranks 1st in Swachh Sarvekhshan ranking for North India

SRINAGAR, OCTOBER 08:  A high level meeting to review the progress of various developmental works recently undertaken by the Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) was today chaired by Junaid Azim Mattu, Mayor of Srinagar at Mayor Conference Hall, here.

The meeting was attended by Joint Commissioner (R), Joint Commissioner (W) , Joint Commissioner (S) CAO/ FA, Executive Engineers of Right River Works Division, Lift River works Division,  Planning wing, Ex. Engineers from City Drainage, PHE and other Senior Officials from SMC.

During the meeting, the Mayor took a detailed review regarding the progress of various projects and transformational initiatives undertaken by the works division.

He lauded the efforts of sanitation workers, SMC officials, especially the Chairman Health and Sanitation and Chief Sanitation Officers SMC to make clean Srinagar possible and congratulated them  as Srinagar city gets 1st rank in Swachh Survekshan ranking for North India  and overall 12th rank in the country. 

The Mayor directed Joint Commissioner (Works) to develop cell 4 at Achen in a stipulated time frame.

          He also sought details about the present status of 14 FC High Mast street lights, for which the technical bidding has been already done.

Impressing upon the concerned officials to complete the respective works within a stipulated time frame, the Mayor also enjoined upon them to speed up the process of tendering of works which need to be carried out on priority. 

During the meeting, senior officials from SMC updated the Mayor that most of the projects are nearing completion as 70 to 80 percent of work has been already done and the remaining work shall be completed very soon.

While highlighting the importance of hoppers, the Mayor stressed upon the officials that the hopper services across Srinagar should be made operational as soon as possible. In the meeting a need of 100 hoppers for the sanitation in the city was also discussed threadbare.

          Directing the concerned officials to cover all areas in the city zone wise with 300 available Hoppers, the Mayor stressed that efforts should be put in place smartly so that maximum population is covered with this door to door service.

He directed the officials to provide every household with both degradable and non degradable bins for garbage on subsidized rates, so that garbage is segregated at source and the revenue for corporation also increases via user charges.

Chairman Health and Sanitation along with CSO and MSO were directed to close minimum 5 to 10 open garbage sites every month which have surfaced on roadside in the course of time. Further he directed the officials to make all new vehicles ready for operation as soon as possible.

While taking a holistic review regarding the preparedness for snow clearance operations in forthcoming winters, the Mayor directed the concerned officials to depute snow ploughs one each in respective administered wards and 8 to hospitals and other SOS services out of total 45 snow ploughs available with the corporation. He further directed the officials to prepare an early foolproof action plan for snow clearance.

He envisaged upon the officials that a detailed roaster for snow clearance should be ready by the first week of November and by mid November these machines should be deployed to respective wards.

Elaborating further, the Mayor impressed upon the officials that the corporation should be ready for snow clearance by the end of this month. Stating further, He suggested that SMC may seek help from MED for the snow clearance purpose and incase of eventuality, tender can be floated for snow clearance plough machines.

During the meeting, the redesign and makeover of the SMC building for which the funds have already been allotted was discussed threadbare.

It was also suggested that the Community halls should be privatized so that their maintenance is enhanced and the revenue generated from these assets be utilized for other developmental projects.
