Kulgam Encounter Drags Into 10th Day, Forces Tighten Cordon

Srinagar, Aug 10: The anti-terror operation in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kulgam district entered its 10th consecutive day on Sunday, with security forces intensifying efforts to trap the remaining militants.
“The operation is ongoing, and forces are working to close in on the terrorists’ positions,” an official said, noting that the militants appear to be well-trained in jungle warfare and are using the dense forest cover to evade drone surveillance.
Since the encounter began on August 1 in the Akhal forest area, two Army soldiers have been killed and nine others injured, making it the Valley’s longest-running anti-terror operation in recent years. Two terrorists have also been killed, though their identities and group affiliations remain unconfirmed.
Top police and Army officials — including J&K DGP Nalin Prabhat and Northern Army Commander Lt Gen Pratik Sharma — are monitoring the situation closely. Drones, helicopters, and para commandos have been deployed to flush out the militants hiding in the thick foliage.
