JKACS organises 5 KM Red Run to spread awareness about HIV/AIDS

JAMMU, OCTOBER 16: In continuation to its efforts for the prevention and control of HIV in Jammu and Kashmir, the J&K AIDS Control Society (JKACS), H&ME Department, Government of J&K organized the second leg of the five Kilometre run for generating awareness on HIV/AIDS and related issues.
The event Red Run – 2025 was organized in collaboration with the Directorate of Sports & Physical Education, University of Jammu for College and University level students with a special focus on youth wellbeing and channelizing their energies in a positive direction. The event, which was part of the two month long Intensified IEC Campaign launched by National AIDS Control Organization in the country on August 12, 2025, concluded today at the sports ground of University of Jammu.
Earlier, the activity started with the flagging-off of 2 KM walkathon on the university campus on October 15 2025 by the Chief Guest – , Director, Sports & Physical Education, University of Jammu Dr. Daud Iqbal Baba in presence of Guest of Honour Principal, SPMR College of Commerce Dr. Rajinder Singh and Special Guest, Deputy Director (Finance) JKACS Madan Lal. Around two hundred and fifty students participated in the walkathon.
The whole event was organized under the guidance of Project Director JKACS Dr. Jehangir Bakshi, in collaboration with the Directorate of Sports & Physical Education, University of Jammu.
Members of Red Ribbon Clubs from Jammu University and different Colleges of Jammu took part in the walkathon which was followed by the main activity of 5 KMs Red Run on the athletic track of the university campus witnessing participation of 110 students. The run for girls was held on October 15, 2025 and for boys on October 16, 2025.
The winners of the Red Run were awarded by the Chief Guest alongwith other guests present on the stage. First position was bagged by Parul Sharma in women’s category from Directorate of Sports & Physical Education, University of Jammu and Karamat Ali in men’s category from GDC, Paloura respectively. The winners from J&K will participate in the National Level Running Competition to be organized by NACO at Chumoukedima (Dimapur), Nagaland on October 30, 2025.
Later a felicitation function was also held in which mementoes were presented to the guests, nodal officers of the Red Ribbon Clubs and other concerned officials from the participating departments.
Anchoring of the program was done by Lakhshika Jamwal & Yamneesh Thakur students from Sports and Physical Education Department, University of Jammu.
