J&K Police Tops Gallantry Medal List on Independence Day 2025

Srinagar, Aug 14: Jammu and Kashmir Police has bagged the highest number of Gallantry Medals in the country this Independence Day, with 127 personnel honoured for exceptional acts of bravery, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) said on Thursday.
According to figures accessed by Kashmir News Observer, out of the 233 Gallantry Medals announced this year, 152 went to personnel from the J&K region. The J&K Police led the tally with 127 awards, followed by the CRPF (20), Uttar Pradesh Police (17), BSF (16), and Chhattisgarh Police (14).
In total, 1,090 personnel from police, fire services, Home Guard & Civil Defence, and Correctional Services across India received Gallantry and Service Medals in 2025. This includes 233 Medal for Gallantry (GM), 99 President’s Medal for Distinguished Service (PSM), and 758 Medal for Meritorious Service (MSM).
Among Gallantry Medal recipients, 54 are from Left Wing Extremism-hit areas, 152 from J&K, three from the North-East, and 24 from other regions, the MHA said.
