Jammu Muslim Front Urges Govt to Reconsider Electricity Tariff Hike

Jammu, Oct 13: The Jammu Muslim Front (JMF) has appealed to the Union Territory government to reconsider the recently announced electricity tariff order, citing financial hardships faced by the people of Jammu and Kashmir since 2019.

Chairman of the Front, Mr. Zaffar, expressed concern that the revised tariff would further burden middle-class families, daily wagers, and salaried employees who are already struggling to make ends meet.

“The people are already facing immense economic pressure, and this steep increase in power tariff will only worsen their situation,” Mr. Zaffar said, urging the authorities to reduce the tariff by at least half to make it more manageable for consumers.

He also appealed for a minimum three-month grace period to enable consumers to clear their pending electricity bills without penalty.

Mr. Zaffar added that no significant economic relief has been witnessed in the region since 2019, making the hike “unjustified and insensitive to the plight of common citizens.”

The JMF chairman urged the government to revisit the tariff order and take immediate steps to provide relief to the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
