Rajouri to host series of athletic, sports events under ASMITA League: DC
RAJOURI, MARCH 05: District administration Rajouri is going to host multiple athletics, sports and fitness events as part of the ASMITA League (Achieving Sports Milestone by Inspiring Women Through Action) being held Nationwide to mark International Women’s Day.
Addressing a press conference here today, Deputy Commissioner Abhishek Sharma briefed media persons about the arrangements made and the competitions to be held at different venues to encourage greater participation of women and girls in sports. The International Women’s Day 2026 will be observed on March 08, 2026.
“The competitions including badminton, tug of war and fun activities shall be organised at the Sports Stadium. Similarly, 100 metre and 200 metre race will be held at the District Police Lines (DPL) Rajouri, while a 400 metre race will be held at ALG Rajouri” he informed.
He further stated that the events under the ASMITA League are being organised at around 250 locations across the country, while in Jammu and Kashmir the activities will be held at three locations including Rajouri. The competitions shall be held in three separate age categories — below 13 years, 13 to 18 years and above 18 years — to ensure wider participation.
The Deputy Commissioner added that the event would be coordinated by Sports Authority of India, MY Bharat, Khelo India Centres, the SAI ecosystem and the State Government.
“The initiative aims to mark a meaningful nationwide celebration of women’s empowerment through sports and fitness in continuation with the ASMITA initiative,” he maintained.
To facilitate participation from remote and far-flung areas of the district, the Deputy Commissioner said that emphasis is being laid on wide publicity through different mediums.
