Heavy Rains: All Schools in Jammu Division Closed Till Aug 30 for Safety

Jammu, Aug 28: The Directorate of School Education Jammu (DSEJ) on Thursday ordered closure of all government and private schools across Jammu division till August 30, 2025, due to continuous heavy rains and safety concerns.

According to the order issued by Director Dr. Naseem Javaid Chowdhary, the incessant downpour has led to waterlogging in school premises, restricted access in low-lying areas, and increased risks of landslides and shooting stones in hilly belts.

Damaged roads in several districts have also made travel unsafe. Growing concerns from parents and civil society prompted authorities to extend the shutdown.

“In the interest of students’ and staff safety, all schools in Jammu Division shall remain closed till August 30,” the order states.

Heads of institutions have been directed to continue online classes for senior students wherever possible and ensure thorough cleaning and safety inspections before reopening. Schools must also follow SOPs and consult local administration before resuming physical classes.

The DSEJ said the situation is being monitored closely, and further instructions will be issued depending on weather conditions.
