REASI, JUNE 05: Eco club, NSS and NCC unit  of Government General Zorawar Singh Memorial Degree College, Reasi celebrated World Environment Day from June 1, 2022 to June 5, 2022.

The Day is celebrated every year on 5th of June to raise global awareness towards deteriorating environmental conditions and to encourage masses globally to take positive environmental action to help in protecting nature and the planet earth. It is the day that reminds everyone to get involved in environment friendly activities. Keeping this aim in view, an array of activities were organized to sensitize the young minds of GGZSMC.

On 1st June event was started with an introductory  lecture by Prof Upasna (Convener of Eco club) with an objective to spread awareness among students about environmental issues like overpopulation, pollution, global warming and unsustainable consumption of resources. Principal of the college, Dr. Chander Shekhar said that the objective behind celebration of Environment Day is to make young generation more sensitive towards protection of environment, by promoting the message of sustainable living to protect and restore the planet earth. Keeping in line with the theme, a Pledge was taken by college faculty and students, to protect the mother Earth by reducing the use of Plastic in their lives. The pledge was led by Prof. Palvinder Kumari, the NSS PO. She also encouraged the volunteers to reuse, refuse, and reduce plastic products for sustainable living.

As a prequel to the celebrations, Slogan Writing and Poster making competition was conducted on 2nd of June with the theme of this year: โ€˜Only one Earth’. In this competition, Neena Kumari , Priya Lakhnotra and Sonali Atri bagged first, second and third position respectively.

In slogan writing competition, Divya Rani secured the first position. Nighat Akhter and Sharda Devi secured second and third position respectively. The competitions were judged by Prof. Anchal Raj, Dr. Reena Rani, Dr. Chaman  Atri and Prof. Rekha Gupta. Principal of the college appreciated and encouraged the students for their participation in such events.
