DDC Kupwara urges officers to ensure full functioning of Mandi within 15 days

KUPWARA, MAY 29: On the directions of District Development Commissioner (DDC) Kupwara, Khalid Jahangir, Fruit and Vegetable Mandi Bumhama in Kupwara district has been made functional again in the last one week.

The DDC appreciated the efforts of ADDC Kupwara and AMO Kupwara to make the Fruit and Vegetable Mandi operational promptly and urged them to ensure full functioning of the said Mandi within the next 15 days.

He also appealed to the allottees and stakeholders including the general public to render their cooperation in this important endeavour.

He further said that operationalization of the Mandi at Kupwara will bring down prices of fruit and vegetables significantly and rid the town of traffic congestion to a large extent. 

The traders and farmers will also get access to national markets through digital and physical mode in a hassle free manner. The shifting of Mandi to its designated place will be a win-win  situation for all stakeholders.

Earlier, the Mandi had got a major facelift in terms of infrastructure building including macadamization, construction of Lavatory block and Vermi Compost pit during the first tenure of the DDC. 

The Mandi which was confined to the seasonal dry fruit marketing will now be utilized for vegetable and fresh fruit marketing also.

Soon after taking charge, the DDC Kupwara directed the AMO to initiate immediate steps for making the vital facility functional for the benefit of farmers and consumers. 

Meanwhile, 17 vendors have started their business in the Mandi out of 65 fresh fruit and vegetable allotees.
