Ex-Cooperative MD Convicted for Forging DOB to Extend Service: Crime Branch Kashmir

Srinagar, Nov 4: The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of Crime Branch Kashmir on Tuesday said it has secured the conviction of Mohammad Shafi Banday, former Managing Director of J&K Cooperative Central Land Development Limited, for forging his date of birth to illegally extend his service tenure.
According to the CBK, Banday had falsely recorded his date of birth as 01.09.1939 instead of 1934, using a fake certificate. Investigation confirmed his actual birth date as 26.06.1932, revealing that he overstayed in service by more than seven years, causing financial loss to the state exchequer.
Following a detailed probe, a chargesheet was filed, and the City Judge Srinagar found Banday guilty under Sections 420, 468, and 471 RPC. He was sentenced to two years of simple imprisonment on each count and fined ₹5,000 per offence, with all sentences to run concurrently.
The EOW said the conviction reflects its commitment to upholding transparency and accountability in public service.
