DC Poonch reviews performance of Urban Local BodiesStresses upgrading of sanitation, infrastructure developmentPOONCH, MARCH 11: Deputy Commissioner Poonch, Ashok Kumar Sharma today chaired a comprehensive review meeting to assess the functioning and performance of Urban Local Bodies in the district and to discuss strategies for strengthening civic amenities and urban infrastructure.The Deputy Commissioner took a detailed review of developmental activities being undertaken by the Urban Local Bodies, with particular focus on sanitation management, revenue generation, infrastructure development and overall service delivery in municipal areas.The Executive Officer, Municipal Council Poonch Khalil A Banday presented a detailed PowerPoint presentation highlighting the physical and financial status of ongoing works. The presentation covered the status of own source revenue, staff strength, sanitation management and the progress of development works being executed by the Municipal Council.Discussions were also held regarding the formulation of future plans for the upcoming financial year with emphasis on improving sanitation services, construction and upgradation of lanes and drains, and beautification of the town to enhance the overall urban landscape.Issues pertaining to compliance with the directions of the National Green Tribunal were also deliberated in detail, particularly the construction of the proposed Material Recovery Facility (MRF) and Sewage Treatment Plant (STP), which are crucial for effective waste management and environmental protection in the town.The meeting also reviewed the progress under District Capex and UT Capex works, with the Deputy Commissioner stressing timely execution, proper planning and effective utilization of available resources to ensure sustainable urban development.The meeting was attended by ADDC Tahir Mustafa Malik, Chief Planning Officer, Superintending Engineer Jal Shakti, Executive Engineers of PDD, Jal Shakti and PWD Poonch/Surankote, DEPO, besides other concerned officers.
