Centre Issues Notices to E-Commerce Platforms Over Sale of Pakistani Flags, Merchandise

New Delhi, May 15 โ€“ The Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) has sent notices to major e-commerce platforms such as Amazon India and Flipkart for selling items bearing Pakistani flags and symbols, Union Consumer Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi announced on Wednesday.

Taking to social media platform X, the minister stated that notices had been served to Amazon India, Flipkart, Ubuy India, Etsy, The Flag Company, and The Flag Corporation for allowing the sale of Pakistani-themed merchandise.

Joshi emphasized that such actions show a lack of sensitivity and warned that they would not be tolerated. He instructed these platforms to promptly remove such listings and ensure compliance with Indian laws.

He also cautioned all online sellers to strictly follow the country’s legal guidelines when operating within India.

Additionally, the CCPA recently issued 13 notices to online marketplaces including Amazon, Flipkart, Meesho, and OLX over the sale of walkie-talkies lacking proper licensing details, frequency disclosures, or Equipment Type Approval (ETA).

According to the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, numerous walkie-talkies are being sold without meeting legal requirements, which could have implications for national security. An initial review revealed hundreds of such listings: 467 on Amazon, 314 on Flipkart, 489 on Meesho, and 423 on TradeIndia.

Minister Joshi reiterated that sellers must comply with all relevant regulations to safeguard consumer rights and prevent illegal trade practices.
