Census Training commences in Jammu District
JAMMU, MARCH 16: A three-day district level training programme for Census functionaries was organized today by the District Administration Jammu (Principal Census Officer, Jammu) here at the Conference Hall.
The training event was coordinated by DC Office Jammu, in collaboration with the Directorate of Census Operations, Jammu & Kashmir. The training sessions are scheduled for March 16, March 18, and March 23, 2026, with the objective of strengthening the preparedness of field-level officers for the forthcoming Census operations.
The training programme was attended by district-level Census functionaries including Vidhu Shekhar, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Administration), Jammu as District Census Officer, Sanjeev Kapoor, District Informatics Officer (DIO), Jammu and Neeraj Sharma, District Statistics & Evaluation Officer (DSEO) serving as Additional District Census Officer, Jammu.
Sub-Divisional Magistrates functioning as Sub-Divisional Census Officers, Tehsildars designated as Charge Census Officers, and other officials associated with Census activities also participated in the programme.
Officers from the Directorate of Census Operations, J&K Jatinder Kumar, Nodal Officer and Sunita Reshi, District Coordinator imparted detailed training to participants on various aspects of Census procedures, legal provisions, operational guidelines, the CMMS portal, Self-Enumeration phase (May 17 to May 31, 2026) and house-listing operations (June 1 to June 30, 2026).
They also explained the role and responsibilities of officers at the Sub-Division and Charge levels.
Nimrat Kour (ADCO), Meenakshi Pandit (SIG-I) and Anil Kumar (SIG-II) from DCO, J&K also attended the training.
The participants were briefed on the importance of accurate data collection, effective coordination among different administrative levels, and adherence to prescribed formats and procedures to ensure the smooth conduct of Census operations.
Speaking on the occasion, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Administration), Jammu and District Census Officer Vidhu Shekhar, highlighted the significance of the Census as one of the largest administrative exercises undertaken by the Government of India. He emphasized the need for strong coordination and capacity building of field officers to ensure the successful conduct of the exercise.
The training programme also provided an opportunity for participants to clarify their queries and gain a comprehensive understanding of the operational framework required for the effective implementation of the Census.
The District Administration reiterated its commitment to ensuring proper planning, coordination and efficient execution of the Census process at the district level.
