CBI Arrests Man Wanted for 1999 Murder in Saudi Arabia After 26 Years on the Run

New Delhi, Aug 16 — After evading authorities for over two decades, the CBI has arrested a man accused of a 1999 murder in Saudi Arabia, officials confirmed on Saturday.

The accused, Mohammad Dilshad, was detained at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport on August 11 when he landed from Madinah via Jeddah using a new identity and passport.

According to officials, Dilshad, who had been working in Riyadh as a heavy motor mechanic and security guard, allegedly killed a co-worker in 1999 before fleeing Saudi Arabia. He later returned to India, obtained fresh identity documents fraudulently, and continued travelling frequently to Gulf countries using the new passport.

The CBI took over the investigation in April 2022 at Saudi Arabia’s request. While an initial lookout circular (LOC) failed due to his altered travel documents, investigators eventually tracked him to his native village in Bijnor, Uttar Pradesh. Technical and human intelligence inputs later helped the agency identify his forged passport, prompting a fresh LOC.

Unaware of this, Dilshad arrived in Delhi on August 11, where immigration authorities flagged him, leading to his immediate arrest by the CBI.
