CAT Rejects Plea to Reschedule JKSSB Exams

Jammu, Aug 22: The Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT), Jammu Bench, has dismissed petitions filed by four candidates seeking rescheduling of the JKSSB Junior Engineer exams, citing a clash with the UPSC Main Examination.

The JKSSB exams are set for August 24 (JE Electrical) and August 31 (JE Civil), with over 31,000 aspirants registered. The tribunal ruled that the inconvenience of four applicants could not override the interests of thousands of candidates and the extensive arrangements already made, including issuance of admit cards, printing of stationery, and deployment of staff and security.

The bench, comprising Administrative Member Pragya Sahay Saksena and Judicial Member Sanjeev Gupta, observed that any interference at this stage would lead to major financial loss and disrupt the recruitment process.

Senior AAG Monika Kohli, representing the respondents, argued that the plea was filed belatedly despite sufficient time after the notification of exam dates. The CAT agreed, stating that the applicants’ concerns about exam overlap were not sufficient grounds for altering the schedule.

The tribunal also noted that the JKSSB and UPSC examinations are distinct in nature and level, and therefore cannot be linked for rescheduling purposes.
