CAG Of India Elected As Vice-Chair Of UN Panel Of External Auditors

Girish Chandra Murmu, the Comptroller and Auditor General of India, has been elected as the Vice-Chair of the UN Panel of Auditors for the upcoming year. This appointment highlights India’s dedication to the highest standards of external audit and its active involvement in shaping the global audit landscape. During the panel meeting, Murmu also held a bilateral meeting with Pierre Moscovici, the First President of Cour des Comptes, to discuss strengthening bilateral relations between the two Supreme Audit Institutions. The Panel of External Auditors, consisting of heads of 12 Supreme Audit Institutions globally, oversees the external audits of the UN Secretariat, Funds and Programmes, and Specialised Agencies. The annual meeting provided a platform for collaborative discussions on various issues, including financial management, climate change, and digital matters. Murmu led the discussion on critical financial and management issues affecting UN organisations. In a separate meeting, Murmu and panel members met with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres to exchange views on risk management, the challenging financial environment, and the need for well-structured funding strategies.
The panel members emphasised the pivotal role of the UN system in guiding and managing climate finance issues, along with expressing concerns about digital transformation.
