Bihar Man Arrested in Kulgam for Killing Woman, Two Children in Ramban

Ramban, Sep 19: Jammu and Kashmir Police have arrested a man accused of killing a woman and her two children in Banihal, Ramban district — a case being linked to an alleged illicit relationship.

The accused, Anil Kumar of West Champaran, Bihar, was arrested from Mir Bazar in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district.

Police said Kumar allegedly murdered 30-year-old Dhanmati Devi and her two minor children, residents of East Champaran, Bihar. Their bodies were recovered from beneath a culvert along the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway at Rattanbass, Banihal, on September 8.

The recovery of the bodies triggered shock and led police to form a Special Investigation Team (SIT) headed by SDPO Banihal Manjeet Singh.

SSP Ramban Arun Gupta said the SIT used a mix of human intelligence, technical surveillance, and scientific analysis to track the suspect. Once traced to Kulgam, a police team moved in and apprehended him.

During interrogation, Kumar confessed to the crime, police said, adding that the killings were linked to his alleged illicit relationship with the deceased woman.

The investigation is being supervised by SSP Ramban Arun Gupta and Additional SP Ramban, while further probe is underway to establish the full sequence of events and collect additional evidence.
