#Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav: World Bee & Metrology Day celebrated in Rajouri
RAJOURI, MAY 20: To commemorate the anniversary of the signing of the Metre Convention in 1875 and also to acknowledge the role of bees and other pollinators for the ecosystem, Government PG College Kheora today celebrated the World Metrology Day and World Bee Day here on the College campus under the aegis of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav.
The theme of the World Bees day was, “Bee Engaged: Celebrating the diversity of bees and beekeeping systemsโ while World Metrology day was observed with the theme, “Metrology in the Digital Era.”
To mark the twin events, a grand program was organised by the Post Graduate College Kheora. The program was organised under the overall supervision of the Deputy Commissioner Rajouri, Vikas Kundal.
During the event, scores of speakers highlighted the significance of the twin days. Prominent among them included the PG College Principal, Prof. Javed Ahmed Qazi; Chief Agriculture Officer, Sohan Singh; Assistant Commissioner Legal Metrology; DSEO, Sandeep Sharma; Prof Iqbal Raina; Prof. Bashir Ahmed; Prof. Subash Vaid; Prof. Iqbal Raina and staff members of the college and students.
The Principal highlighted the importance of both the days and also underlined the role of Metrology. He also expressed the need to save the bees as they are very important for the environment.
Professor Bashir Ahmed said that World Bee day was celebrated to acknowledge the role of bees and other pollinators for the ecosystem. He also threw a detailed light on Metrology and its various activities take place in most aspects of our daily commercial, economic, industrial, and environmental and health life.
Professor Subash Vaid also spoke on the importance of the bees in the environment saying that the bees work to pollinate plants that produce many of the seeds, nuts, and fruits that serve as a food source for local wildlife.
While speaking during the event, the Assistant Commissioner Legal Metrology highlighted the significance of the World Metrology day saying that the day pays tribute to the signature at the Metre Convention that occurred on the 20th of May, 1875.
He further said that the Convention featured a coalition of seventeen nations who came together to establish the framework for global collaboration in the field of scientific measurement.
Underlining the role of metrology, he said that the Metrology plays a central role in scientific discovery and innovation, industrial manufacturing and international trade, in improving the quality of life and in protecting the global environment.
The Chief Agriculture Officer, Sohan Singh, while enlightening the gathering about the importance of the World Bees day, said that the day aims to create awareness on the pivotal role of bees and other pollinators in keeping people and the planet healthy.
The Deputy Commissioner said that the day also gives an opportunity for people and a society as a whole to take actions to protect and enhance pollinators and their habitats, improve their abundance and diversity, and support the sustainable development of beekeeping.
