Awareness Programme on ‘Silkworm Techniques and Cocoon Harvesting’ organized in Reasi

REASI, AUGUST 12: The Central Silk Board, Ministry of Textiles, Government of India, in association with the Sericulture Development Department (SDD), Government of Jammu & Kashmir, successfully organized an awareness programme on “Silkworm Techniques and Cocoon Harvesting” under the flagship campaign ‘Mera Resham Mera Abhiman’ (MRMA) at Panchayat Garh, Granmore, District Reasi.
The programme aimed to educate silkworm rearers on best practices for improving the quality and quantity of cocoon production. Surinder Bhat, Scientist-D, Central Silk Board, Dehradun, briefed participants on the objectives of the MRMA campaign and emphasized the significance of using proper mountages during spinning, sorting techniques and the precautions to be taken during cocoon harvesting and storage.
Rajeev Gupta, District Sericulture Officer, SDD, Reasi, shared valuable insights on prescribed silkworm rearing techniques for enhancing Bivoltine (BV) cocoon production.
Sushil Kumar, In-charge, highlighted the importance of regular bed cleaning and the use of “Vijeta” during rearing to prevent diseases and improve yield.
Around 30 farmers participated in the programme and expressed their appreciation for the technical guidance and practical tips provided by the experts.
They acknowledged the relevance of the MRMA campaign in improving their rearing practices and boosting their livelihood opportunities.
The event also saw active participation from Sanjeev Kumar and Sushil Sharma of SDD Reasi, who contributed to the successful organization of the awareness drive.
