Jammu, May 12: On the occasion of Mother’s Day Apollo Hospitals, recalls some touching stories where children, as donors, played a crucial role in giving a lease of life to their ailing mothers.

The same way, mothers, as donors, played a crucial role in giving a new lease of life to their children.

For over 20 years the Organ Transplant Program of Apollo Hospitals Group, has performed over 451 pediatric liver transplants, suffering from chronic conditions related to the heart, liver, kidney and bone marrow.

In case of living organ transplants especially related to kidney and liver, it has been heartening to see families extending relentless support in offering themselves as donors.

Especially teenagers and young adults who have come forward without the fear of their health, to support their ailing parents in a situation where a living organ transplant is required (kidney & liver).

Recently 54 year old Jyotsana, from Kanpur underwent a lifesaving liver transplant procedure at Indraprastha Apollo Hospitals after suffering from chronic liver ailments.

She underwent a successful liver transplant with her 25 year old as the donor.

On recalling the complication, 25 year old Amber, said,’ I would do this for my mother again, God forbid if the need arises!’

Similar was the case of 55 year old Veena from Delhi who had been suffering from chronic kidney disease for over a year and had to undergo a kidney transplant procedure. Her 22 year old daughter was the donor.

When asked, 22 years old, Sumedha, said, “My mother is the centre of my world, when the doctors recommended a transplant, I knew we had to do whatever it took to save her, fortunately I was a matching donor.”

Also, recently a 7 year old girl  Anshika, underwent a lifesaving liver transplant after suffering from pulmonary liver disease and Wilson’s disease. Her condition was so critical that within 36hrs of admission to the hospital she underwent the surgery and her mother was the lifesaver for her.

Similar was the case with 14 year old boy Master Anmol Rana, who underwent liver transplant surgery due to liver failure. He was suffering from autoimmune hepatitis from the age of 12 years. In his case also her mother was the donor who can do anything for her child.

According to Dr. Anupam Sibal, Group Medical Director, Apollo Hospitals Group and Senior Paediatric Gastroenterologist & Hepatologist, Indraprastha Apollo Hospitals, “A mother will do anything she can do to save the life of her child. We see this every week. To see a smile back on a mother’s face when she sees her child smile again post-transplant after going through the worry and pain of seeing her child being so ill is most gratifying. We are so fortunate to be able to witness this miracle of
