All-Terrain Vehicles Deployed in Kishtwar as Rescue Operations Intensify

Kishtwar, Aug 18 — Special all-terrain vehicles (ATVs) have been pressed into service in Chasoti village to support ongoing rescue operations after the August 14 flash flood that has so far claimed 61 lives.
The ATVs, with a load capacity of 1,200 kg, are being used to navigate difficult terrain and reach buried or remote locations. “These vehicles can operate in any weather and terrain. Some trapped people have already been rescued using them,” said Jaipal Singh, Head of Production.
Nearly 450 personnel from the Army, NDRF, SDRF, CISF, CRPF, J&K Police, BRO, and NHPC are engaged in round-the-clock operations. Officials confirmed that 116 people have been rescued so far, while search efforts continue for the missing.
CISF DIG MK Yadav said heavy machinery, including JCBs, is also being deployed. “The situation has improved compared to the first day. All agencies are working in zones, and we are hopeful of rescuing more people,” he noted.
