AAP MLA Mehraj Malik Detained Under PSA in Doda

Jammu, Sep 8: Jammu and Kashmir AAP chief and sitting MLA Mehraj Malik was on Monday detained under the Public Safety Act (PSA) in Doda district, officials said.

This marks the first instance of a sitting MLA being booked under the PSA, a law that permits detention without formal charges or trial for up to two years in certain cases.

Malik had registered a historic win for AAP in the 2024 J&K Assembly elections by defeating his BJP rival in the Doda constituency with a margin of over 4,500 votes.

Earlier, he had won the District Development Council (DDC) elections from Kahara constituency in December 2020 but resigned from the post after being elected MLA in October last year.
