UDHAMPUR, JULY 30: Deputy Commissioner, Udhampur, Krittika Jyotsna today chaired a meeting of the District Environment Committee to review the implementation of District Plan and steps taken towards elimination of single use plastic.

Threadbare discussion were held on various aspects which includes Solid waste management plan, Biomedical waste management, Plastic waste management, Construction and demolition waste management, Pollution abatement in non-attainment cities, Control in identified polluted river stretches, Industrial waste water management plan, Domestic sewerage management, Mining activity management, Hazardous waste, E-waste management, Water quality management, Restoration of water bodies etc.

Reviewing the implementation of the solid waste management plan, the DC directed the Municipal authorities to ensure waste disposal in a scientific and regulated manner. She further stressed on speedy completion of ongoing projects. She also asked civic authorities to encourage the people to segregate the dry and wet household waste at the source itself before it is collected by MC.

The Chief Education Officer was directed to launch a massive awareness campaign in the educational institutions with active participation of students to discourage the use of single use plastic.

It was informed that the site for dumping of construction and demolition waste has been identified and the land transfer case is under process.

The departments were asked to stop the use of single use plastic bottles in the offices and make arrangements for locally available safe drinking water.

The PCC Udhampur informed that to curb the menace of polythene, anti polythene squads have been constituted for different locations in Udhampur.

 Concerned officers were asked to enlist single use plastic and generate awareness among the General Public of the District.

 The EOs of MC Udhampur, Chenani and Ramnagar informed that they have established the collection points in their areas   as per the directions of NGT.

Among others, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Mohammad Syed Khan, ASP, Anwar-Ul-Haq, CMO, Dr Vijay Basnotra, CEO, Arvin Koul and other officers were present in the meeting.
