UDHAMPUR, MARCH 14: Deputy Commissioner Udhampur, Minga Sherpa today chaired a meeting of the District NCORD Committee to review the enforcement measures in place to curb trafficking of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances and to strengthen measures aimed at curbing drug abuse in the district.
Additional Deputy Commissioner Prem Singh; Additional SP Sandeep Bhat and senior officers from line departments attended the meeting.
The meeting reviewed the identification and rehabilitation of drug addicts, PIT-NDPS cases, drug seizures recorded during 2025, action taken against erring pharmacies, installation of CCTV cameras, measures against illicit crop cultivation, inspection of de-addiction centres, block-wise data on drug abusers, identification of hotspots, surveillance of educational institutions, IEC campaigns, mass awareness programmes, Nasha Mukti Abhiyan, Nasha Mukti Panchayats and cases registered under the NDPS Act.
The Deputy Commissioner emphasised the need for close inter-departmental coordination to effectively track and apprehend individuals involved in drug trafficking, identify abuse hotspots and promote community-based rehabilitation and awareness initiatives.
He directed the stakeholder departments to intensify counselling services and strengthen IEC activities to sensitise the public about the harmful effects of drug abuse.
The Chief Education Officer and College Heads were also instructed to organise regular awareness programmes in their respective institutions.
Emphasising strict enforcement, the Deputy Commissioner called for decisive action against perpetrators of drug abuse to safeguard the youth from falling prey to drug addiction.
