Excise deptt destroys poppy on 110 Kanals at Pulwama
SRINAGAR, MAY 20: The Excise deptt destroyed illegal poppy cultivation spread over 110 kanals of land during a massive drive in various areas at Pulwama.
Following the directions of Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, the Excise department conducted Poppy destruction drives in Excise Range South Kashmir during which poppy crop was destroyed before the formation of Poppy Seed heads or capsules so that the illicit Cultivators may not misuse it.
Earlier, a comprehensive survey of all the potential areas of illicit Cultivation of Poppy was conducted by Excise field officials so that this menace is rooted out from the society, said an official.
The drive was conducted in Pulwama by Excise Range South Kashmir in close cooperation and coordination of Concerned Revenue and Police officials.
Meanwhile, more than 20 FIRs were registered against illicit poppy Cultivators.
An official of Excise deptt said that such drives will continue till the menace is completely rooted out from the society.
