Jammu, Dec 12: Jammu and Kashmir Police have expanded the security network in Reasi district by setting up 97 new Village Defence Guard (VDG) groups comprising 1,164 new members, officials said on Thursday.
Hundreds of VDG volunteers from the remote and hilly areas of the Arnas block attended a security review meeting and interacted with senior police officers. The review focused on deployment strategy and preparedness of VDGs to counter any suspicious movement in the region.
Officials said police have also added 1,902 additional members to the existing VDG groups to further enhance village-level security.
They said 726 over-aged VDG members have been replaced with younger and more active personnel to ensure improved operational efficiency.
According to officials, SSP Reasi Paramvir Singh reviewed the functioning and readiness of the VDGs during the visit. He also heard the issues and grievances raised by the members and assured them that their concerns will be addressed in a prompt and time-bound manner.
