Cross-Voting Controversy Echoes in J&K Legislative Assembly

Srinagar, Oct 27: The Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly witnessed heated exchanges on Monday as the issue of cross-voting in the recent Rajya Sabha elections surfaced during the question hour.
According to reports, Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary accused the National Conference (NC) of “stealing four votes” during the polls. “Yesterday, you stole four votes. If I start speaking, no one will remain seated here. Let us allow a secret to remain a secret,” Choudhary remarked.
His comments triggered a verbal showdown, with NC legislators hitting back, calling BJP members “vote chor” (vote stealers). The session soon descended into slogans and counter-slogans from both sides.
Amid the uproar, Peoples Conference president Sajad Gani Lone accused both the NC and BJP of collusion, terming the election outcome as “match-fixing.”
The heated exchanges underscored the growing political tension following the Rajya Sabha elections, which saw the NC winning three seats and the BJP securing one amid claims of cross-voting.
