Ladakh Violence: SC Issues Notice to Centre, Ladakh UT on Plea Challenging Wangchuk’s Detention

New Delhi, Oct 6: The Supreme Court on Monday issued a notice to the Centre and the Union Territory of Ladakh on a plea filed by climate activist Sonam Wangchuk’s wife, Gitanjali J Angmo, challenging his detention under the National Security Act (NSA) and seeking his immediate release.
A bench of Justices Aravind Kumar and N V Anjaria, however, declined to pass any interim order directing authorities to provide the grounds of detention to Wangchuk’s wife. The court posted the matter for further hearing on October 14.
Wangchuk was detained under the NSA on September 26, two days after violent protests in Ladakh demanding statehood and Sixth Schedule status left four people dead and 90 others injured. He is currently lodged in Jodhpur jail, Rajasthan.
