Ladakh violence: Wangchuk’s wife moves SC, seeks his immediate release

New Delhi, Oct 3: Climate activist Sonam Wangchuk’s wife, Gitanjali Angmo, has approached the Supreme Court challenging his detention under the National Security Act and seeking his immediate release.
Wangchuk was taken into custody on September 26, two days after violent protests in Ladakh over demands for statehood and Sixth Schedule status left four people dead and 90 injured. He is currently lodged in Jodhpur jail, Rajasthan.
In her plea filed through lawyer Sarvam Ritam Khare, Angmo alleged that she has not been provided a copy of the detention order and has had no contact with her husband so far, terming the move a violation of rules.
The Ladakh administration recently denied allegations of a “witch-hunt” or a “smokescreen” operation against Wangchuk.
