Congress high command to decide on RS poll strategy, says Tariq Karra

Srinagar, Sep 25: Jammu and Kashmir Congress president Tariq Hamid Karra said on Thursday that the party’s central leadership will take the final decision on its approach for the Rajya Sabha elections scheduled on October 24.

Karra told reporters that the issue will be discussed with the high command, which will weigh all aspects before announcing a decision. He declined to elaborate further.

In the upcoming polls, the NC-Congress alliance is expected to secure three of the four seats. With six MLAs in J&K, Congress is likely to claim one of the “safe” seats.

According to sources, the party may field Ghulam Ahmad Mir, MLA from Dooru, who has held key organisational roles and contributed to the party’s recent performances in Jharkhand and West Bengal. Another option under consideration is a senior leader from Jammu, once a Congress bastion but without representation since 2014.
