Normal Life Remains Disrupted in Doda for 5th Day After MLA Mehraj Malik’s Detention

Doda/Jammu, Sep 13: Life in Jammu and Kashmir’s Doda district remained paralysed for the fifth straight day on Saturday following the detention of AAP MLA Mehraj Malik under the Public Safety Act (PSA), officials said.
Malik, also chief of AAP’s J&K unit, was detained on Monday for allegedly disturbing public order, sparking widespread protests that led to prohibitory restrictions and suspension of internet services.
Despite a two-hour relaxation on Friday evening that passed off peacefully, police and paramilitary forces continued patrolling the streets on Saturday, instructing shopkeepers to keep shutters down.
Authorities released several detained persons on personal bonds but maintained heightened security across sensitive areas. Schools have been ordered shut until Sunday by the chief education officer.
Earlier protests led to violent clashes, leaving eight police personnel, including a DSP and an SHO, injured.
Locals have urged the administration to lift curbs and restore normalcy. “Students already lost weeks to heavy rains, and now restrictions are disrupting life further. We want the movement of people to be allowed immediately,” said Mohammad Shaban, a resident.
