PM Shehbaz Sharif Vows India Won’t Get ‘Even One Drop’ of Pakistan’s Water

Islamabad, Aug 13: Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday declared that India would not be allowed to take “even a drop” of water belonging to Pakistan, as tensions between the two nations remain high.
Following the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 civilians, India announced several punitive measures, including suspending the 1960 Indus Waters Treaty (IWT). Pakistan has repeatedly warned that any attempt to block its water supply would be considered an act of war.
“If you threaten to hold our water, remember this — you cannot take even one drop from Pakistan,” Sharif said at a ceremony, warning that any such move would prompt a severe response.
His remarks echoed statements from other Pakistani leaders. Former foreign minister Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari called the IWT suspension an assault on the Indus Valley Civilisation, while Army Chief Gen Asim Munir reportedly told a gathering in Tampa, Florida, that Pakistan would destroy any dam built to cut off water flow. “The Indus River is not India’s private property,” he said, vowing to counter any such plans.
India launched Operation Sindoor on May 7, striking terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. The four-day conflict ended on May 10 after both sides agreed to a ceasefire.
